Digging into the sediments: what do fish otoliths within tell us?
Date : Wednesday, March 10,2021
Time : 10:00AM – 10:30 AM
Location : Online Zoom Room
Speaker: Dr. Chien-Hsiang Lin

Fish otoliths are a significant biogenic component in the outer layer of the sea bottom sediments. Their nearly ubiquitous nature in marine sediments is of particular interest to paleontology and historical biology. Previous studies have shown that the otoliths in the sediments are reflective of local fish communities at a given time in the past. In this seminar, using coral and algal reef materials, discussion will be carried out on how fish otoliths in these sedimentary settings can shed new lights on ecological and conservational practices.
